Question by [katelyn]: how do you download and save adobe photoshop brushes from the internet ; so that you can use them?
please help… i really want to use this cute brush i found.. but dont know how to save!
detailed way would be good 🙂
Answer by Geo. I
This depends on how the brush has been loaded onto the webpage you’ve found.
As a general rule, brush files for Photoshop normally have the extension .abr, but if the brush file is of any appreciable size, you may find it’s been mounted as a ZIP or RAR file. In that case, you’ll need something like WinRAR to open the file you download from the web, and then load the abr file within that archive into C:\Photoshop\Brushes\ directory.
If you find the file has any OTHER extension than abr, then the file will need to be converted from that format onto the abr format. This is the ONLY format which Photoshop will recognise.
If you’re still having problems, feel free to contact me.
Hope This of Help

Question by LyssaMonet: HELP! When I download free photoshop brushes and extract them using Winrar, they turn into Adobe Reader9 files?
Answer by Alex O
I can figure out two reasons for this:
1. Reader uses the same file extension name therefore is used by Reader too. This is no problem, just copy the files in your PS folder and run them through Photoshop.
2. The files are fake.

I recently learned how to make photoshop brushes by going to edit and define brush preset. Some of the lost brushes i made myself of my own art and others i downloaded from free brush sites. can i get them back? is it possible that i saved them somehow? if so where could i look?
i know how to open the brush window, i mean i make or acquire brushes and then they disappear and arent in the brush list anymore!!

Adobe keeps Brushes in two separated files. To locate them (assume you use Windows platform):
1- Program Files >> Adobe >> Adobe Photoshop >> Presets >> Brushes.
And this one holds all Adobe Standard Brushes.
2- The other file which holds user-defined brushes, is the one which pop-up when try to load adobe brush (see the link above)
Question by B: How do you use downloaded brushes on photoshop or get them on photoshop?
PLease, will give you best answer, if helpful
Answer by meikai_derushie
With brushes you need to go into the folder where you have all the data files stored (it’s usually in program files if you run on windows), and go into presets. From there, go to brushes and copy your brush files to that folder. Do not download them directly to that folder. You can do the same with patterns and other things in photoshop. ^^
From here, they should be available easily in the program. Also, from photoshop you can access them directly via the “load brushes” function.
