Q&A: Does anyone know how to delete a drop shadow from an Illustrator CS4/vector file?

Question by Troy: Does anyone know how to delete a drop shadow from an Illustrator CS4/vector file?
I have a file that I have imported (created by a customer) into Illustrator CS4. The logo is vectored but has a drop shadow which I need to remove. I have looked in both the layers palette and the appearance palette but there is no info on the effect. Does anyone have any idea how to remove that pesky shadow?

Unless it is embedded it will appear in one of the sublayers in the layer menu, open up all the layers (little triangle to the left) to reveal the sublayers one of them should have a filled grey circle to the right, that will be where the effect is. However if it is not appearing in the appearance palette it might be rasterised and embedded in which case you will need to make a clipping path to mask it.

Q&A: How do I avoid my drop shadow in Illustrator CS4 being obscured by other objects?

Question by andrew: How do I avoid my drop shadow in Illustrator CS4 being obscured by other objects?
I’ve created a drop shadow on some text in Illustrator CS4. However, even when the text is in front of another object the shadow remains behind. This is even true if the text is on a separate layer above the other objects. I must be doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

No, a drop shadow will be placed solely on that layer.
