Q&A: Photoshop Elements brush?

Question by Alina: Photoshop Elements brush?
I was wondering how you get that brush that makes it so when you write something it duplicates it and draws it in revers on the other side. Please help, thanks.

Brushes in photoshop are just stamps. You could get a butterfly stamp, a flower stamp, whatever really but that stamp will always be the same as when you made it. So if you wanted to have text as a brush, you could do that but you can’t change words.

But, you can use the text tool and type what you want, then go to the layers tab to your right and right click on the finished text layer and select “duplicate layer”. Then with the new text layer highlighted go to the menu bar at the top and go to the “edit” tab and go to “transform” and then click “flip horizontal” Then just use the move tool (hit “V” on your keyboard to activate the tool [or it’s on your tool bar, that icon that looks like the mouse cursor with a cross thing next to it]) and then move the newly backwards text where ever you want

What is the difference between Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Photoshop Elements?

Question by Morten S: What is the difference between Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Photoshop Elements?
Hello, Elements is a lot cheaper. Can someone please tell me detailed what the big differences are? Can i for example make graphical designs with it?

I appreciate your help

Answer:

Answer by Lukas Wolfe
The main difference would be the ‘pen tool’. This is not available in Photoshop Elements. Additionally Photoshop Elements doesn’t have all the advanced features Photoshop CS4 has, but it does have some of its own things such as the organizer, smart brush, cookie cutter, etc. If you are a beginner or intermediate photographer or digital artist, I would recommend Photoshop Elements. If you are a professional, and wanting to use it for web design and illustration, or very professional photography, that’s the only time I would recommend Photoshop CS4 over Elements.

Can you upgrade to Photoshop CS4 straight from elements?

Question by Practically Prudent: Can you upgrade to Photoshop CS4 straight from elements?
I received an email from adobe a couple hours ago and they’re saying I can get it for 300 as an upgrade to elements. Hmm… I thought upgrades only worked with the parent programs? Anyone ever use the upgrade package of a Photoshop CS from Photoshop elements?

Heck if this works, I know what I’ll be purchasing soon.
Yes I think they’re “lying” to me. I’m a disillusioned cynic that doesn’t believe anything from “the man.”

Companies like adobe aren’t infallible, I asked because of this. If you’ve nothing to contribute to the actual question, you can troll elsewhere.
Thanks rainbow, that’s exactly the info I was wondering about. It is indeed odd that the site shows the software costing that much. I’ll definitely be purchasing CS4 through the email adobe sent me, perhaps it’s a long time customer deal. I’ll definitely call and verify before I purchase it. Thanks again!
Oh and to the one that recommended pirated software, all I can say is, wow.

You think Adobe is lying to you? They are offering an upgrade from Elements to CS4. Why would you not believe them?

Q&A: photoshop elements 5.0 wont load more than 1 brush?

Question by MaCourtney22: photoshop elements 5.0 wont load more than 1 brush?
I downloaded some compatable .abr file brushes for my Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 program. I unzipped the files, and put them in the Program Files/ Adobe/ Elements 5.0/ Presets/ Brushes, but it still will only load one brush set at a time.

Is there any way to load all the brush sets onto the palette so I can see them when I am working?

Answer:

Answer by Mujer Alta
Sorry, only 1 set at a time is loaded. There are brush file viewers that will let you look at your installed brushes without the restriction of one set at a time. I think its abrView that will also let you make a new set (or sets) of your favorite brushes from all the brush sets you have loaded. (I downloaded these programs ages ago intending to try them out – actually I need to organize all my brush sets – but I got too busy and have never installed them.)

This is a popular brush viewer:
http://abrviewer.sourceforge.net/

And another:
http://www.easyelements.com/abrview.html

This is a relatively new kid on the block that’s developing a great reputation. It handles all kinds of things including brushes. It’s not free but it’s not expensive either.

photoshop elements brush uses?

Question by ofiddledeedee: photoshop elements brush uses?
Call me stupid, but I’m new to Photoshop and all it’s uses. I am using my Photoshop Elements 4 mainly for digital scrapbooking, and am not sure how the brushes that are shaped like things, are used. I saw a freeware download for different shapes, animals, leaves, etc. Are they used as stamps? Are they actual brushes that make designs on the “paper”? I guess I’m just looking for any explanation!

Answer:

Answer by dhvrm
A “brush” in Photoshop is a way to change the cursor, so that when you are editing an image — drawing a line, adding a mask, changing the color, erasing part of the image, etc. — you can custom-control how big the cursor is, its shape, how intense it is, whether the edges are “feathered,” etc.

Brushes such as you describe are most often used like a stamp.

How can I design or learn to design my own brushes in Adobe Photoshop Elements?

Question by cameronscami: How can I design or learn to design my own brushes in Adobe Photoshop Elements?

Answer:

Answer by crsimon36
A brush can be anything you want. I scanned a bunch of household items, mesh, sponges, etc and turned them into brushes. I also have created brushs from photographs of the end grain of logs. You could scan, if you have a scanner, leaves that will be falling very soon. You can also use shapes or text. Color does not matter as the brush takes it color from that set for foreground and background.

After you get an image for a brush, then it is simply Edit > Define Brush. It will appear at the bottom of the currently loaded set of brushes.

Click on the paint brush tool.

Up near the top left hand side of the screen you will see a white rectangular box with a brush stroke in it. (Looks like an eyebrow and is next to the size menu).

Click on the arrow down.

Then a box will pull down that says “Default Brushes”.

Click on the pull down menu next to default brushes.

Pick your style.

ENJOY!
