Question by CinnaBun: How do you block Photoshop from automatically loading custom brushes? (Slow loading time).?
Every time I try to load Photoshop CS3 (I’m on a Mac), it takes several minutes or more to get past the ‘loading brushes’ stage. I was wondering if there was a way to stop Photoshop from loading ALL of my brushes every single time it opens. I was thinking of deleting all of my brushes from the presets and then loading the ones I need manually, but I don’t know where the original files are, if they’re even still on my computer.
I was also wondering if there’s a program or something that lets you manage Photoshop brushes better (previews, loading them…etc) both in and out of Photoshop?
Thanks in advance! 😀
Answer by P&G
♦ Open the Brushes list
♦ Click the sideways triangle and choose Preset Manager
♦ Select the brushes (hold CTRL for multiple) that you don’t want to load
♦ Click the Delete Button
♦ Click the Done Button
The next time you open Photoshop, the deleted brushes won’t load.

It depends on which version of PhotoShop you have. If you click the Help link at the top of your PhotoShop screen, you’ll find the information for your version there, or you can get it at the Adobe site, which is a great resource.
(I’m using CS2, and for me, it’s Edit > Define Brush Preset.)

I have photoshop elements 4 and i downloaded a pack of custom photoshop brushes off of deviantart. will they work on pse4? and if so, how do you export them or whatever so that they show up in the brushes menu?
I made a custom brush in photoshop for my photos with my copyright info. I have been using it for months fine but I started a new project using many different special effects brushes, now I can’t find my custom made brush, I’ve tried resetting, I have looked in my presets/brushes folder and its not there, anyone know where else I can look. thanks!
I have already searched the abr files, and those are just sets of brushes I have found and it is in none of those sets. It was always with my regular set of brushed, it had a high number like 300 or something.
It seems that my brushes, patterns and filtres are shared automatically but I can’t find the shapes. I’ve checked the program files as well as the common files.
How can I take an image, turn it gray scale, and turn it into a brush and save it?
I have CS4 BTW so keep it current please. Thanks!
I have downloaded a few custom brushes off of deviantART, but I’m clueless on how to add them to my brushes so that Photoshop can recognize them.
How do I add the brushes so that I can finally use them?
I’m using Photoshop 7.0.
And the brushes I downloaded have the extension .PspScript
(Just thought I’d add that bit of information incase the files are only compatible with newer versions of Photoshop.)
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!
Okay, I tried the “Load Brushes” option but the files are not visible when I go into the extracted folder. Apparently I can only view .ABR files..?
