Depending on what’s easier to select, select either the background area; or the the bit you want to keep and inverse the selection (menu Select>Inverse) so you have all the background area selected.

Go to menu Edit>Clear, then Edit>Fill and select black as your fill colour.

I’m not sure about a brush tool, but if you’re looking to convert an entire image to black and white then go to “image” tab at the top -> mode -> grayscale. Hope that helps.

On the left hand side of the screen there is taskbar with all your basic brushes and zomm functions and all the stuff you usualy use. At the bottom of that taskbar ther is a litle square icon, if you put the mouse pointer over it, it says CHANGE SCREEN MODE and the hotkey is F. Click it until you get the mode you want, there is about 3 modes.

Q&A: Why do images i copy and paste (from firefox) into Photoshop CS4 have a black background?

Question by bionut: Why do images i copy and paste (from firefox) into Photoshop CS4 have a black background?
If i goto a website, copy an image, and paste it into photoshop CS4, for some reason the background always is black. I never had this problem with CS3 and i can’t figure out why its doing this? Does anyone have any ideas?

The only way i can get around it is to save the image to my harddrive, open in photoshop, copy the image in photoshop, and paste into my other photoshop document.

Perhaps you’re trying to copy an image from a video?

Most video players have the hardware acceleration (or video accelleration, cant remeber which one XD), Which means the video is actually a “second” window (or we can consider it a second layer), and stamp R sist actually takes a screen only of the First layer, Thus everytime you take a Pic of a video it will only show the first layer (Black screen) and not the 2nd layer (The video), You can fix this by deactivating the hardware accelleration (or video accelleration >.>).

While… If it’s not a video or anything like that, It happens to me too sometimes… Dunno why, But i fix it by just simply left click on it once. =P

Hope it helped and sorry for my english, I’m Italian =D
