I have photoshop cs4 extended, I know where my smudge tool is, but where are the adjustments to fix them to my liking?
and I mean adjustments, as in the jitter, angle jitter, scattering dynamics, etc.

When you have your smudge tool selected you can bring up your brushes panel and make changes just like when you’re using other tools. Go to Window > Brushes, or press F5 to bring up the menu.

Photoshop Brush Size Problem?

The shortcut keys for sizing the brush, “[” and “]” were working fine earlier, but now
Photoshop CS3 won’t let me use these shortcut keys and instead I have to continue
going back and forth clicking for the brush size on the screen.

How can I use my bracket keys again and what might I have done wrong?

Okay, I am new to photoshop CS4. I always used Kodak or photofiltre before. I have figured almost everything out, with this exception. I am trying to make a picture for one of my friends with a myspace layout site. I need to make a picture of someone with a bright background, and then an outline of another bright background. I cannot figure this out. I could always do it on photofiltre but it wouldn’t let me do outlines. Can someone please help!

You can use stroke effect ( underneath the layers )
chose the desired color, and make the stroke position ( inside )

Any will actually do as long as it has an ample amount of RAM as well as a good graphic card and a decent processor in order to process things effectively. If he wants to get away from just laptops he can build himself a desktop computer that will run the programs more effectively than any PC or Mac they have on the market. I know this because I use the Adobe CS4 Suites all the time as well as 3D CAD programs for engineering and I build my own computers from bare bones.

The preference of PC or Mac is the workflow and interface he wants. If he is more comfortable with the Mac interface then go Mac, but if he is more comfortable with the PC interface then go PC.

There are many professionals that use heavy graphic programs on both types of computers and laptops. I know several designers that use Mac, however, I also know of some top professionals and companies that use PC and they use much heavier graphic programs than any graphic designer would use (particularly in engineering research and design). Like I said, the preference between those are for the workflow and interface he is most comfortable with.

Usually on the market these days, if you see someone advertising a “gaming laptop” you can bet that it has a really good graphics card as well as a high level of RAM and a fast processor. Those are the things that he needs to look for in a laptop or computer for his line of work.

I use Photoshop CS4 under Windows XP Pro. I have a 52inch LCD running at 1920×1080. Problem is the menu is hard to read. Is there a way to enlarge the menu, Also regular black type on white background would be easier than Black on gray. I don’t want to lower the resolution and loose desktop real estate.

I don’t have CS4, but in earlier versions, in Edit –> Preferences –> General, there is a setting for the User Interface Font Size.

I’d also suggest just picking through the preferences to see if there is anything else.

Also, many of the palettes have their own setting to make thumbnails larger, etc. If you check the flyout menus at the top, you’ll see either actual settings or palette options and something could be in there. Well, maybe not in CS4 since I know the palettes are different, but it’s worth poking around.

I think what you are looking for is ‘lens flare’. In Photoshop you can find this under Filter->Render->Lens flare
