Photoshop CS2 Brush Tool Lightens?

Question by Jennifer S: Photoshop CS2 Brush Tool Lightens?
I am using the brush tool in Photoshop CS2 with a Wacom. I have opacity and flow set to 100%. My foreground color is red, my background black. When I paint on a new layer over the background, I get pressure sensitive painting (which I want). However, if I go over an area I’ve already painted, it lightens instead of staying the same color. How can I disable that?

Q&A: Why does Photoshop CS4 Extended quit once I open an image?

Question by Round Moon: Why does Photoshop CS4 Extended quit once I open an image?
It does not matter how many images I try to open in Photoshop CS4, but as soon as I open an image for editing, the application immediately quits without prior notice!

Does anyone know why this happens and what is a possible solution to the problem?

Best answer:

Answer by Don M
Photoshop CS-4 is a huge program and requires a lot of RAM,
So if you have minimul Ram could be the problem. 1 gig minimum.
If you have a pirated copy that is already installed on another machine, could be a problem.
If it is a trial version, sometimes they can miss a file and need to be Uninstalled and re installed.

How do I create a new brush library in photoshop elements?

Question by Cassandra T: How do I create a new brush library in photoshop elements?
I’m creating a header for a blog, but also like to edit photos for my enjoyment, meaning i have brushes that are for commercial use, and some that are non-commercial.
how can i create a brush library to keep commercial brushes separate from non-commercial use brushes?
Thanks for that! 🙂
I have another question, will they stay on the drop down list when im choosing brushes, or will i have to ‘load’ the brushes every time?

Best answer:

Answer by Mujer Alta
You don’t say what version of Elements you’re using but let’s assume it’s newer than Elements 2 or 3;-)

Edit>Preset Manager. Select “Brushes”. Load the commercial brushes. Click on one of them then CTRL+click on the others you want to be in the Commercial Set. Click the Save As Set button over on the right side, give your “new” set a name in the window that appears and click OK. Done. Repeat for the non-commercial brushes.

If, potentially, there are a lot of brushes in each set – like more than around 15 – you might divide each of the brush types into more than one new set. I’m not a creative namer but you might create a Commercial Set 1 and a Commercial Set 2 if you have enough brushes.

Click on ‘Image’ then ‘Image Size’

In most cases you want to change the numbers in the ‘Document Size’ box (you can change the numbers there or in the ‘Pixel Dimensions’ box if you have checked ‘Resample Image’, but NOT in both boxes).

If you check the Resample Box you have more flexibility with how big or small you can go, but you are altering the pixels in the image through a process called Interpolation. If you are making images bigger in most cases you want to select ‘Bicubic Smoother’ and for reductions select ‘Bicubic Sharper’.

If you have the resample box checked, always be sure to have ‘Constrain Proportions’ checked, to prevent your image to become deformed (if you reduce just the width for example, the image will looks squished and if enlarge it, it will look stretched out).

As for resolution: if you’re using it for the web in most cases 72 pixels/inch are enough, and for personal printing 300 pixels/per is good. If you are printing commercially you might need a higher resolution than 300 pixels/inch depending on how it is being printed).

Q&A: How do i convert an IMG file to a Raw file for photoshop cs4?

Question by ZaneFan: How do i convert an IMG file to a Raw file for photoshop cs4?
Someone burned me a dvd with photos on it, they are in the form of IMG because they selected “DVD” when they burned the photos onto the disc. My Photoshop cs4 willl not open img files. how do i convert the files to raw or jpeg or anything else that photoshop will recognize and allow me to open?? HELP please!

Best answer:

Answer by P&G
Raw is a format that comes directly from the sensor of a digital camera. It basically allows you to process the image at a later time from a software program. It’s sort of like a digital negative from which you can develop a digital image. A RAW file that has been down converted to another format, will not benifit from being re-up converted to RAW since it has already suffered bit depth loss.

If you want RAW file results, it would be my recommendation that you have that someone you mention save the RAW files as DATA on a DVD and send them to you again. If That’s not an option then the next best thing would be to convert them to another format. You can do a Google or Yahoo search to find a program that will convert to a format that PS can open. Most of them are demo’s but hopefully this is a one time problem.

Q&A: In Photoshop Elements how do you get a brush to fade from thick to thin?

How To Fade Brush Stroke From Thick To Thin?

It must still be possible to simply paint a stroke with the paint brush that will fade away from thick to thin and to then to nothing. I can do this easily in my trusty PS version 6, but I can’t find this feature in CS. (There’s something called “Fade” in CS, but it’s a whole different thing.) This is not a “nice-to-have” feature, it is essential. For example, it allows me to draw cartoons with lines that appear to be painted the way a brush makes lines that start out fat and gradually get thinner and thinner.

Many newcomers to Photoshop Elements shy away from the Brush tool, thinking they either don’t have the skill or the need for such “artistic” touches. That’s a shame because brushes happen to be one of the most useful tools in your image-editing arsenal. In Elements, you use brushes not only for drawing, but also to create borders, stamp decorative elements, build textures, selectively sharpen or blur parts of an image, edit layer masks, and much more. In fact, any time you selectively edit the pixels on your canvas, you’ll most likely be using a brush to do it.

I really hope you figure it out!
