Photoshop CS4-The size of the brush cursor does NOT properly show the size or area to be affected by the brush?

Question by mooser53: Photoshop CS4-The size of the brush cursor does NOT properly show the size or area to be affected by the brush?
To see an example of this cursor problem go to this site and see the Photoshop Brush Problem photo. www.flickr.com/photos/84392724@N00/
or

The cursor is the size of a quarter but the area affected by the brush is like the size of a dime. There is a similar ratio regardless of the brush size, big or small. Also note a characteristic of this unwanted brush is that the outline is very jagged, not a smooth circle. This makes it impossible to do detailed work when one is not sure where the brush alteration will occur. I have seriously searched hours to remedy this issue……. The photo is just a stamp tool cloning a black roof to the sky to show the small area affected vs. the brush size. I use CS4, and no pen tablet.

It looks like your brush tip is not a circle, but some other kind of shape.

You might want to get a book or take a class to learn how to properly use a $ 700 program. Otherwise, I’m sure you’ve just wasted almost $ 1000.

I think you’d get better answers by posting this in the Software subcategory (under Computers & Internet), or in the Photography sub-sub-category (under Arts & Humanities > Visual Arts).

Otherwise, go to the a forum that deals with Photoshop or with photography (at the Adobe site, or just google it to find others).

Q&A: Why does saving an Illustrator CS4 file as Illustrator 8 increase the file size?

Question by drek: Why does saving an Illustrator CS4 file as Illustrator 8 increase the file size?
My CS4 file is 3MB and after saving it as an Illustrator 8 file it was over 7MB?! Also, when I save the CS4 file as an Illustrator 8 it will not allow me to uncheck the pdf compatibility option (which increases the file size)…Is there any way around that? I’ve tried flattening transparency and that is not helping either. My image is purely vector art – no linked or embedded images.

Best answer:

Answer by Nahum
AI format files for version 8 are based on PostScript, which is compatible with PDF. Versions later, the AI format became based on Progressive Graphics Format (PGF).

When you save for an earlier version of Illustrator, or save with PDF compatibility, you are embedding an entire PostScript format along with the PGF format, essentially two files at once.

How to change size of rectangle tool in Photoshop CS4?

Question by ahrens1130: How to change size of rectangle tool in Photoshop CS4?
I’m using Photoshop CS4 and whenever I try to use the rectangle tool, it will only allow me to draw a rectangle about 50×50 pixels. I can go to edit> free transform to change the size after the fact, but how can I remove the restriction in the first place? This never used to happen, and only started within the last couple of weeks.

Best answer:

Answer by Steve
There are three modes for using the rectangle tool. This is one.

The three modes are:

1) Normal
2) Fixed ratio
3) Fixed size

Yours is set for fixed size with 50 x 50 being the selected size. Change the mode to normal or fixed ratio to see what else it can do.

RTFM for more information.

Why does the pen for my Wacom Intuos 4 tablet make a smaller brush size in Photoshop CS4 than with a mouse?

Question by lafemi: Why does the pen for my Wacom Intuos 4 tablet make a smaller brush size in Photoshop CS4 than with a mouse?
In Photoshop CS4 (I use a Mac if that’s relevant), when I paint using a mouse, the brush size is normal, and when I use the tablet pen using the same brush size, it automatically becomes a lot smaller? I could always just make the brush size even bigger just so I can use the pen, but it’s kind of odd. The “target circle” will be huge.
