I am looking for some Photoshop Crest brushes that contain the Crest Shape (Shield Shape) and the leaves on the side, which you see commonly in awards and memorials or on plaques. I know Illustrator has a limited number of this type of art but none specifically what i want. Any idea where I can find this online? need to locate it ASAP. Thanks!

How do I draw a plain old shape in CS4?

Question by splashum: How do I draw a plain old shape in CS4?
I can not seem to be able to draw a shape (ellipse, rectangle, etc) without it creating it as a vector mask. How do I set CS4 to just draw and let me add masks as I choose?

Answer:

Answer by That Chick
you can use the pen tool to create your own custom shape (trace the vector shape). make sure you are own a blank layer when you use the pen tool though, so go to the new layer icon.
also, make sure that pen option is on “paths” not “shape layers”

According to About.com — http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/photoshop/f/elementscompare.htm — they don’t include the mixer brush and tips tools. Photoshop itself does, but Elements is a bit different — hence the huge difference in price.

There might be work-arounds perhaps. Look into “brushes for Photoshop Elements” and see if you can download the brush-types your looking for instead of trying to create them with the brush palette.

In the about.com article, they even link you to a list to finding free and commercial “add-ons” like brushes, layer styles, and other stuff. Also, try doing a search for “add-ons for Photoshop Elements”, so you can broaden your search to include more than just brushes (if interested).

Create your type and format with font, size etc.

Place the image (or collage, as case may be) by going to File>Place or dragging the layer into your document. Make sure the image layer is on top of the text layer.

Go to Layer>Create Clipping Mask and your photo will take on the shape of the text. You can move it around using the Move tool for a better fit or scale it if need be.

Go to file>preferences>display and cursors, and select ‘Brush Size’ under ‘Painting Cursors’.

If you have caps lock on, your brush will display as a crosshair.

Photoshop Brush Shape Dynamics?

Question by Patrick Pyka: Photoshop Brush Shape Dynamics?
Well, in my photoshop I’ve been trying to attempt digital painting ect.
I find that when I watch tutorials on the web on how to set brush settings and when the person in a video clicks on shape dynamics the brush preview changes from just being a simple almost straight stroke.. to a sort of wavy stroke that when you stroke it on the canvas is goes prom being thick at the start and then when it finishes off it ends with a really nice pointy less thick point – like yo would be able to do with a pencil ona piece of paper.. It really bugs me because i can never get by brush like like that for eg. http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://creativecurio.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/psbrushes-shape-dynamics.jpg&imgrefurl=http://creativecurio.com/2008/01/how-to-customize-photoshop-brushes/&h=325&w=498&sz=52&tbnid=grYDj1BbSsWapM:&tbnh=85&tbnw=130&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dshape%2Bdynamics%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=shape+dynamics&usg=__-Xob9HiUg89j3CBdp2LH4yXa5hA=&sa=X&ei=HLq2TZ-ILIvF8QPr-sFX&ved=0CEMQ9QEwBg
in the preview box..
I’ve tried copying the settings and still no change..
I’m running PS CS5…
Any ideas please?

That type of stroke in the preview can be made with graphic tablets and/or graphic pens. However, even without a tablet you can still achieve this effect when drawing your lines.

How: Create a new layer in your layers palette. Use the pen tool (with the option set to paths) to draw your line (or signature, shape, etc..), then right-click when you’re done. You’ll see some options. One being “Stroke Path”. That’s the one you want. Then choose “brush” as your “tool”, with “simulate pressure” checked.

One thing to keep in mind is you should have your brush size, color, dynamics, etc… all set and chosen before you choose “stroke path”. You can do that either before you start to draw your path, or before you right-click and choose “stroke path”.

Answer by mariATL
In CS (not sure if earlier versions are similar),
+I’d just click once with the gun brush on a transparent layer.
+select just the gun with the marquee tool.
+Then select Edit>Transform>Flip Horizontal
+Then select Edit>Define Brush Set (with the gun still selected)
+ Open your brushes palette, you should find the new brush with the flipped gun at the bottom. Select it to use it!

How do you get that brush shape in Photoshop that’s sharp at both ends and thick in the middle?

Question by a&b: How do you get that brush shape in Photoshop that’s sharp at both ends and thick in the middle?
Is Photoshop supposed to come with it, or do I have to set it up myself in brush presets? If I have to set it up myself, what settings should I use? Thanks!

Answer by Seeker Of Painful Truths
Well first you need a wacom tablet, or cintique. If you just have a mouse, you won’t have the pressure sensitivity to make that feature you speak of, happen.

Second, click on the brushes menu. At the top right of the menu, there should be a tiny arrow pointing down. Click on it. Another window should open. Somewhere in that window there should be a list that says, ” Small Thumbnail, Large Thumbnail, Small List, Large List, & Stroke Thumbnail.” Click on “Stroke Thumbnail”. That should show you the shape of the brush that your talking about.

Now simply click on that brush, and your done. Now paint with it.
