hi! can anyone help me? i dont know what to do. at first, when i used the spot healing brush it was ok. just alt+click the i can use it. but now, everytime I try it, it always appears “alt click to define a source point …” i did it so many times but still it didnt work. do i need to change some of settings in photoshop cs4? pls. answer..here is my email add: ryan_tot@yahoo.com

in the (SPOT healing brush tool), you don’t need to press (alt), it automatically chooses the source point.

but the (healing brush tool) is the tool that needs you to click (alt) to define a point.

so i guess you are using the healing brush not the spot healing brush.

if you can’t find the spot healing brush, just right click on the healing brush, and you will find it.

I’ve been using masks for coloring, and for some reason when i use the brush it erases and the eraser adds the color. I’m really frustrated by it?

press the x button, it will switch from black and white. Using the erase, black erases and white paints the selection mask
press q to switch in and out of quick mask

I may be wrong but unless the photo was color…then you made it black and white…you won’t be able to add color. I.E. if you have a greyscale photo only you can only add greyscale colors… You may be able to select image/mode and choose RGB color or something…

Are you putting the .abr files in the correct folder?

c:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop X/Presets/Brushes (where X is the version you are using).

That isn’t a diamond brush. If you look at the layers, there is a blue layer background that has the diamonds on it.

There are 3 layers.

The top layer is the woman outlined.

The middle layer is the blue vignette with diamond shapes in it. It looks like the outline mask was expanded and used to delete the blue background so that it looks like the woman is outlined in blue.

The bottom layer is the original photo.

I have two layers. My top layer is my image through a filter (some art effect). The bottom layer is my main layer. I want to remove a spot but every time I use the heal brush tool it doesn’t take effect. I’m clearly doing something wrong. Do I create a new layer for the brush tool? The brush tool works when I flatten the image, but I want to keep the layers.

First try to reset the brush tool. Look at the left on the brush options bar. You will find there a way to reset the brush. If that doesn’t work, reset the Preference file. You do this by pressing and holding the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys on launching of CS4. When it asks about deleting a file, YES. Let it start and then close it. Restart CS4 a second time, it will rebuild the Preference file.

so I was told that to put a new brush into photoshop I found out you download it(http://www.brusheezy.com) to your destop. aAfter that you select the brush tool in photoshop I have cs3 and then drag the file from my destop to the arrow pointing down in photoshop next to where you choose your brush and a +add crusor comes up to add the brush file to your photoshop. Well I trie this but when I did it noe the +add crusor came up it a sign that meant it wont work. I think it has something to do witht eh settin of the file what it opens with. I have windows Vista and right now it is set to open with WINDOWS PHOTO GALLERY but it dosn’t work. and I set the setting to windows photo gallery a little while ago and i dont remember what it was orrinally on so idk what program to open it with so I can drag it into photoshop. well try and help me please pleaseee I really need this to edit my stuff. thank you soo much for reading and if you have anything you think I should know please tell mee thank you very muchh answer:)

you have to copy the file over into photoshop directory folder, watch my video how to do it with gimp, photoshop might be similar

First of all did you double-click it?
Second try opening a different project.
If none of these work, restart Photoshop.

I have Photoshop Elements 5.0 when I brought my Wacom Bamboo tablet last year. Now all of a sudden when I use the brush it messes up. I looked at all the settings and stuff but I can’t figure out what is causing it to be like this. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

No idea why so let’s fix it by resetting the Preference file since it seems to be acting up with both the pencil and the brush. To reset the Preference file (the fix for when things start acting crazy) is to press and hold the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys on starting of Elements. When it asks about deleting a file, YES. Elements will then go ahead and start. Close it and restart Elements. This time it will take a little longer as it rebuilds the Preference file. Hopefully, you problem will be gone.
