Photoshop – can’t use any tools on my new layer apart from the paint brush, using a RAW converted image?

Question by laura: Photoshop – can’t use any tools on my new layer apart from the paint brush, using a RAW converted image?
This is my first time using a RAW file. I can make changes on the background layer, but not the new layer. Any ideas?

Answer by Nahum
Most of Photoshop’s tools only work at certain ‘bit depths’. 8 bits per channel is the most common, and is used by JPEG and PNG graphics. However, raw format images use whatever bit depth is available on the camera. (My Nikon D40X for example makes 14bpc images.)

You might want to make a copy of your image—after applying all the high-definition edits you wish to make—and then convert it to 8 bit color mode (Image > Mode > 8 bits per channel) to gain access to your other tools and layers. Keep in mind that the raw format image has more flexibility for editing, and all this flexibility is lost when converting down to 8 bpc.

How can I delete Adobe Photoshop CS4 from my computer?

Question by sapphire: How can I delete Adobe Photoshop CS4 from my computer?
I have tried deleteing it from the control panel. Everytime I try it says Adobe Bridge is running even though it isn’t. How can I get this off of my computer? Any help is appreciated. I was a trial version that expired.

Answer:

Answer by Jim
my guess is that adobe bridge starts automagically when the machine starts up. right click on the toolbar at the bottom of the windows desktop, choose task manager, then to to the processes tab. find the adobe entry in process tab, right click on the process name, and end the process. After that, you should be able to delete the program from the control panel.

How do I stop Photoshop CS4 from creating a new layer each time I use the line tool?

Question by Veemon: How do I stop Photoshop CS4 from creating a new layer each time I use the line tool?
Each time I use the line tool, a new layer is created. How can I stop this? No settings were changed.

Thanks in advance.

Answer by dylanralph
the only way i can think to resolve this is if you press [ctrl] + E, which is the shortcut to stick the layer to the layer below it, so once your happy with the line you just merge it to the layer below and continue.

i hope this works out for you, good luck 🙂

Is there a way to prevent photoshop cs4 from connecting to the internet?

Question by LetItBe17: Is there a way to prevent photoshop cs4 from connecting to the internet?
I was just wondering as I don’t want any of my work stolen somehow via hackers/whoever. Does anyone know a way to stop it connecting from the internet each time?
well i actually turned off the updating in cs4 at least i thought i did. My teacher was saying how all new updates aren’t necessarily a good thing so I turned that part off… or well i thought I did. But it still connects to the internet so yeah any help? I am on a wireless so I can disconnect easy enough from my network but i don’t exactly want to do that everytime i go into photoshop.. thanks for the idea tho.

How do you block Photoshop from automatically loading custom brushes? (Slow loading time).?

Question by CinnaBun: How do you block Photoshop from automatically loading custom brushes? (Slow loading time).?
Every time I try to load Photoshop CS3 (I’m on a Mac), it takes several minutes or more to get past the ‘loading brushes’ stage. I was wondering if there was a way to stop Photoshop from loading ALL of my brushes every single time it opens. I was thinking of deleting all of my brushes from the presets and then loading the ones I need manually, but I don’t know where the original files are, if they’re even still on my computer.
I was also wondering if there’s a program or something that lets you manage Photoshop brushes better (previews, loading them…etc) both in and out of Photoshop?
Thanks in advance! 😀

Answer:

Answer by P&G
♦ Open the Brushes list
♦ Click the sideways triangle and choose Preset Manager
♦ Select the brushes (hold CTRL for multiple) that you don’t want to load
♦ Click the Delete Button
♦ Click the Done Button

The next time you open Photoshop, the deleted brushes won’t load.

Q&A: how do you download and save adobe photoshop brushes from the internet ; so that you can use them?

Question by [katelyn]: how do you download and save adobe photoshop brushes from the internet ; so that you can use them?
please help… i really want to use this cute brush i found.. but dont know how to save!
detailed way would be good 🙂

Answer:

Answer by Geo. I
This depends on how the brush has been loaded onto the webpage you’ve found.

As a general rule, brush files for Photoshop normally have the extension .abr, but if the brush file is of any appreciable size, you may find it’s been mounted as a ZIP or RAR file. In that case, you’ll need something like WinRAR to open the file you download from the web, and then load the abr file within that archive into C:\Photoshop\Brushes\ directory.

If you find the file has any OTHER extension than abr, then the file will need to be converted from that format onto the abr format. This is the ONLY format which Photoshop will recognise.

If you’re still having problems, feel free to contact me.

Hope This of Help

Can you upgrade to Photoshop CS4 straight from elements?

Question by Practically Prudent: Can you upgrade to Photoshop CS4 straight from elements?
I received an email from adobe a couple hours ago and they’re saying I can get it for 300 as an upgrade to elements. Hmm… I thought upgrades only worked with the parent programs? Anyone ever use the upgrade package of a Photoshop CS from Photoshop elements?

Heck if this works, I know what I’ll be purchasing soon.
Yes I think they’re “lying” to me. I’m a disillusioned cynic that doesn’t believe anything from “the man.”

Companies like adobe aren’t infallible, I asked because of this. If you’ve nothing to contribute to the actual question, you can troll elsewhere.
Thanks rainbow, that’s exactly the info I was wondering about. It is indeed odd that the site shows the software costing that much. I’ll definitely be purchasing CS4 through the email adobe sent me, perhaps it’s a long time customer deal. I’ll definitely call and verify before I purchase it. Thanks again!
Oh and to the one that recommended pirated software, all I can say is, wow.

You think Adobe is lying to you? They are offering an upgrade from Elements to CS4. Why would you not believe them?

The original image file has to be the same size as the display size on the site. Resizing degrades quality.
