Which free drawing program has a brush like Photoshop?

Question by bla bla: Which free drawing program has a brush like Photoshop?
I don’t have a tablet and too poor for Photoshop. I’ve used Photoshop before and when I try to draw with the mouse the brush stokes are so much better (it makes those thin thick thin strokes/hair strokes and straighter) than Gimp’s. I really like Gimp but it’s harder to draw without that brush stroke. Is there a another program which uses that stroke but with mouse not tablet and it’s free/easy to use.

Or do you fellow Gimp users know how to make that hair stroke (without the path-tool or eraser) perhaps a certain setting?

Thank You =]

I’m not sure you are aware that you can download Adobe Photoshop for free for 30 days as a trial period and on the 29 day just don’t renew it. and just drop it . Then a few days later do the same thing or wait just a little bit longer and then do it again.

Q&A: Drawing my own photoshop brushes. how?

Question by smplyswt: Drawing my own photoshop brushes. how?
Alright, Well, the thing is, i like to draw my own photoshop brushes. (just got into it recently) and, i’ve tried EVERYTHING! from using, sharpie, a pen, a very inky pen, but everytime i scan it, it just comes out ugly . it isn’t smooth, and it looks like i used pencil or something . i’ve seen other people that say they draw their brushes, and the ones they do come out smooth, and they actually look like brushes.

what am i doing wrong? can anyone guide me on how to make my brushes look like actual brushes i got from elsewhere?
also, i’d like some serious answers, and those who answer and/or try to help, i greatly appreciate it. 🙂

by the way, i have adobe photoshop CS2

What type of brushes are normally used when drawing anime/people using photoshop?

Question by Anitta: What type of brushes are normally used when drawing anime/people using photoshop?
I was despairingly trying to figure out what type of brushes are used with all these fascinating drawings I find on DeviantART and such… I’ve tried downloading tons of brushes, but non seems to be what I’m searching for. I want those soft lines that doesn’t look pixalized or kind of wavy when used. I have adobe photoshop CS5, but it doesn’t matter if you have an older version, I just need the the type of brush. Any link is welcomed and appreciated.

You can use the “basic” brush shape, you don’t need fancy brushes.
The trick is in how hard or soft edged your brush is, and most importantly, setting the spacing down to 1% from the default 25%, which is what makes it look “wavy” when you paint. In your brushes palette, click on Brush Tip Shape at the top, and then adjust the bottom slider that says Spacing all the way to the left. You will now get a MUCH smoother stroke.

ALSO, work at a higher magnification, to make a cleaner mark, and set your image size when you start to 200ppi, rather than the standard 72. This will give you more pixels to work with. You can always resize it when you are done through Image>Image Size and then change the Resolution back to 72 pixels/inch, which is screen resolution for Macs (96 pixels/inch is PC).

Best of success to you!

Q&A: What brush to use for anime drawing? (Photoshop)?

Question by guitarooman: What brush to use for anime drawing? (Photoshop)?
Hi, I have a tablet, and Photoshop CS3, however for my last drawing, I used one of photoshop’s default brushes, and the outlines came out to be very inconsistent, thick and overall not very nice. The lines were too flexible and hence were all scribbles. Does anyone know good brush settings, or a download that I can use for outlines? Thanks a lot!

Answer by j_goodedude
Both of these problems are probably caused by you, not the brush’s. Most tablets are pressure sensitive; therefore, if you press harder at one point, it will become thickier (depending on settings in the brushes panel thingy). As for shakiness, that is almost definitely your causing. You most likely just have a shaky hand; you can fix this by going quicker over the lines or drawing the lineart on a really big image then decreasing to your ideal size. Does your tablet have a removable, thick, clear plastic cover on it? I found that removing mine helped a lot.
Personally, I have my sketch, make it a minimum of 10,000 x 10,000 pixels, and get my brush. I just use a default hard brush with opacity, flow, and size jitter set to pen pressure. Then when I color, I just make it so size jitter is on. For an eraser, I use a default one with 0% hardness.

Wow, that was like a mini tutorial :p
Hope I helped ;D

Photoshop CS4 for drawing?

Mainly I use photoshop for drawing using the common brush tool. In the cs4 I noticed that the brush is not as fast as it was in the other versions. I mean I draw and the lines follow back the cursor, they don’t go with the cursor! I don’t know why. My pc performance are the following:

Processor: Core2 Duo
RAM: 2.00 GB
System type: 32-bit
Graphic Card: GeForce 8600M GT
The hard-disk has: 18GB free.

I’m not sure if it’s because my pc performance or because I have to set some Photoshop settings….What do you think?
All the other tools work very well (even filters) don’t jam or anything like that… only the brush is working a bit slow (not very slow but still not satisfying me)
If you know any method that can help me please let me know… I really need your help!!!
Thanks!
