Question by Sam: Where can I download the basic Photoshop brushes?
I’m searching and searching, but I do NOT WANT CUSTOM BRUSHES!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the program on my other computer but I set it to system default so I doubt it’s there. I use Gimp and seeing alotta tutorials that I want to try require Photoshop..I thought Okay I know where what is on Gimp..but..I don’t have the brushes. Help?
~This is so I can download the ”Brushes Photoshop came with” and install them on Gimp~

Illustrator comes with plenty of fonts. Im surprised that you cant find one you like from the selection. As for shapes, you can make your own in Illustrator!

The fact that you’re asking that question makes me think that you’re not (very) familiar with Photoshop.

If that is the case, you have a LOT of learning to do before you would even want to think about getting more stuff.

Learn it, use it, and practice – in time, you’ll KNOW what other goodies you’ll need or want.

I have Photoshop 7.0 and with my other computer which had windows XP it was real easy to download new Brushes. But i Cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it using windows vista.
if it matters, i use www.brusheezy.com to download new brushes.

also i don’t have win zip….do i need that?

OK i have another problem…i went to save the file in the brushes folder, and then it said I’m not allowed cuz I’m not the administrator…however..i am. there is no other account on this computer…..what the heck?

ok u dont need winzip unless ur downloading another format besides .zip u right click the file and press extract once that is done u open photoshop then go to ur brush tool then when u click to select the size of the brush or the type ur going to see a arrow click it then u will see a menu that says load brushes click that and find the find u exacted and then scroll all the way to the botton cuz they will be the last brushes

This depends on how the brush has been loaded onto the webpage you’ve found.

As a general rule, brush files for Photoshop normally have the extension .abr, but if the brush file is of any appreciable size, you may find it’s been mounted as a ZIP or RAR file. In that case, you’ll need something like WinRAR to open the file you download from the web, and then load the abr file within that archive into C:\Photoshop\Brushes\ directory.

If you find the file has any OTHER extension than abr, then the file will need to be converted from that format onto the abr format. This is the ONLY format which Photoshop will recognise.

Yes and no. Each person who provides free brushes will have information on how you may use them. Some people will request that you pay a small amount if you are going to use them for commercial purposes (in your art that you intend to make money from). Some will let you freely use the brushes however you want. Many will ask that if you use their brushes for a design you post to the Web (for example in something you put up on Deviantart or Myspace) that you give them credit/put a linkback to their site and info. I certainly think that is only fair, since you are using something that another person put time and effort into and then provided for free.

But anyway, most people will have info on their site about the permitted use and many will include a text file with the brush download that provides that info.

Because of CS5’s imminent release (on April 30th, click here to be notified of its release: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=product_notify ), you can no longer search Adobe’s site to dl the CS4 trial. What you can do, however, is use the old link to the trial:

You will need to sign in with or create an Adobe account to download the trial.
