I have PSP X so I can at least get you started. I think I can take you all the way through if you will be patient and let me walk you through slowly 🙂
First you have to convert the brushes so they will be PSP compatible and to do that you need to download ABR Viewer. This is the link and it’s free –
http://abrviewer.sourceforge.net/
It’s easy to use and if you have a problem just let me know. Open the brushes with this program and it will automatically convert the brushes to .png files. It will also put these files in a separate folder in your document folder but you have to tell it to. Just check out all the options on the menus. As I remember the help files are good.
When you do this let me know. It’s better to email me (joanbrandt@bytheindigorabbit.com), but I will check back here also.

The problem you are having is that Photoshop wasn’t really designed as a painting application. Photoshop is primarily an image editing program, although it can be used for painting/drawing. It’s unlikely that Corel paint brushes will be compatible with Photoshop.

When you use the smudge tool, you can change the shape of the brush in Photoshop so that is smudges like a brush with bristles, you can also change the size, and strength of the brush. Using the brushes panel, click Window > Brushes, you can get other effects which change the brush tip shape, plus Photoshop comes with a large set of brushes you can add to the brushes palette to simulate different media.

Can Adobe Photoshop recreate the same brushes as Corel Painter?

Question by OKwithme: Can Adobe Photoshop recreate the same brushes as Corel Painter?
I like the Photoshop program more, but I was wondering if I could recreate the look of the brushes from Painter on Photoshop. Photoshop seems to be a great program to paint in as well as touch up the paintings using its photo editing tools, but the images painted usually have a digital feel instead of a natural feel.

yes. photoshop is very versatile and can mimic painter. i’ve seen work done in photoshop that looks like it has been done in painter. you just have to have the right brush settings.
