I already have a project started and i need a picture in the same project. Whenever i try to drag it in it disappears and then i click and the picture pops back up but in a pink tint. Whats going on?

Open the project, then click the on the File menu, then click Place, then search for the file you want to place, then press the Enter key. Now you should be able to mess with it.
I think that’s how you do it, I just tried it and it worked, I’m use to Adobe Fireworks, so I’m not use to Photoshop.

The pink tint would indicate that you’re in Quick Mask mode. Click on the Quick Mask tool (rectangle with circle in center) to turn it off.
To open a second image as a separate layer, Open the second image and open the Layers Palette – Window > Layers. Right click on the background layer of the second image and choose Duplicate Layer. In the Document pull-down field of the Dialog, select the file name of the 1st document. The layer for the 2nd document should appear on top of the background layer. If you want to see through the top layer down to the 1st, reduce the opacity of the the top layer.
