Pressure sensitivity on Wacom Intuos4 doesn’t work in Photoshop CS3?

I just received a Wacom Intuos4 tablet, and am trying to work with the brushes in Photoshop CS3. However, the only set of brushes that exhibits the pressure sensitivity function is the set of Wacom brushes that came with the tablet. I used to have an older Wacom tablet that would display all brushes in the pressure sensitivity format.
Is there any option to turn this functionality on, or how i can fix this problem?

    1. Hit F5 to bring up the brushed panel.
    2. Click “Shape dynamics” (The words, not the check box or lock)
    3. Make sure pen pressure is selected from the control drop down and make sure photoshop recognizes your tablet. If it does not recognize your pallet then there will be a yellow triangle with an exclamation point next to the word control.
    4. Set the various options to your liking.
    5. Enjoy!

I have the exact same problem! I’ve been trying everything, and nothing works at all. Is it the tablet, or the program??

Hey, I ve got same problem with pen pressure in Photoshop. I installed latest driver for my OS X. I checked box Shape dynamics, but still no success. I tried several programs like Corel Sketch Pad, and Toon Boom Studio. Pen pressure doesnt work in any of them.. please help me

What you guys need to do is go to your control panel and select Wacom tablet properties. At the bottom of the Wacom tablet properties window you need to click on the options button. Tick “Adjust pen pressure for compatibility with older programs like cs3 that only supports 1024 pressure levels”, that should work. To increase the sensitivity, open photoshop brushes tab and apart from shape dynamics, you also select > other dynamics, put flow jitter to pen pressure and the slider to 0%. Turn opacity jitter to off. Good luck!

I’m a year late regarding replying to this post but I bought an intuous4 today and I had the same problem. But I found that reinstalling the tablet driver solved the problem.

Shaun – I was able to fix this – thank you! Your note about the Other Dynamics and pen pressure was exactly what I needed. It also helped to uninstall the old driver first then reinstall the new driver. I’m on a Mac with CS4. Intuos 3.

    Have you tried restarting photoshop

If you see the yellow triangle, try selecting the box while actually using the tablet. I found that if you used a mouse or a trackpad the triangle showed up, but as soon as you used the actual tablet and pen it disappeared. This is of course assuming that you can use the tablet in the first place.

I found the solution to your problem after much trial and error. Its a Wacom setting so the version of Photoshop shouldn’t matter. Since I came to this very thread for help myself, I thought i would share the tutorial I made here for others coming for help:
