How to use the brush tool with a placed image Adobe Illustrator CS3?
I’m using AI CS3 and I Place an image just fine, it’s a simple PNG. The problem is that when I go to use any of the tools, there’s the black “Not Allowed” symbol. I tried creating a new layer separate from the placed image layer and it won’t let me do anything to the file.
How can I go about fixing this without live tracing/expanding the placed image?

I have this same exact problem, and that link above didn’t help me. I don’t need a new brush.
