Half Life 2 runs but lags, like crazy how do i get it to work???

i Have half life 2. i installed it on our good computer and it worked great. i beat it then put it away for quite a while. with the release of HL2 Episode 1 i want to brush up on the story a bit. also play CS Source. My mom kicked me off the good computer and now i am on this crappy one upstairs. i mean its not horrible but it won’t run the source engine games with out lagging and chopping like crazy. i have an intel cerleron d processor, sounds crappy but it is 2.93GHz, 533MHz. the video card if you even want to call it that, is some crappy intel intergrated graphics bullshit, but the game runs so idk if it is the vid card. i have enough money to buy a new video card or a new processor, which one do i need more to make the game run well?

It sounds as if you need more Memory=RAM which you didn’t mention how much the machine has..
go to http://www.crucial.com put the name and model number in the search place and they will show you the excat amount and kind the pc uses

It is the video card. Intel Integrated Graphics are strictly NOT capable of running Source games. You must have a graphics card, preferablly from Nvidia 5 series upwards, or ATI x200 at least and up.
Intel Integrated is the baddest of all the bad graphics chips. New games won’t work for it. only perhaps those free korean games that keep coming out are compatible with it.

A video card. My processor is 3GHz same like yours so I think it will run smoothly if you own a video card. Like me, i only use MSI RX9550 and I already finish the game happily & smoothly. The built in intel graphics can only play old games like red alert 2 or any 2d-ish games. If you’re into 3D gaming, get a video card.

Have a minimum of 512 MB of ram preferably 1 Gb if your pc can support it. Then when you are looking for a video card, check to see if your pc has an AGP or PCI Xpress slot. Try to stick to the brand names of: EVGA, BFG Tech, Straight NVIDIA, Straight ATI, sometimes Saphire. I would reccomend an NVIDIA card but my old 9800 Pro worked well in source 90 frames most of time.
