I apply a colored gradient, but it only shows up in hues of grays. What is wrong?

This might sound silly but is your image a black and white/grayscale image? See if the “mode” is set to RGB. If not see if changing it helps. (Image —> Mode –> RGB)

The only two other things I can think of (if the above isn’t the problem) is that 1. the layer you’re applying the gradient to is set to a blend mode causing it to look gray on your image (set it to normal if it’s not and see if it’s still happening), or 2. you have an adjustment layer affecting your gradient layer perhaps — apply a new gradient to the top-most layer with absolutely nothing above it and see if it’s still happening.

I had some photos used without my permission and I need to start watermarking. I want a watermark on my Flickr photostream photos. I want something that looks nice and that doesn’t overwhelm the photo. Please give me instructions/tips on how to do this. Thanks!

Do you want advice on a visual style for your watermark, or just the technical side?
Basically, you create your design in a .png or .psd. Draw in white and leave the background transparent. then just copy and paste over your pics and turn the opacity down to around 30 in the blending options for that layer. Some people also add thin lines that go corner to corner, but that can overpower the picture a little. others also create inner shadows on the watermark to make it visible on a range of backgrounds.

I need to create a corporate identity package for a design class, using InDesign CS4, I have already created the letterhead and business card, but how do I create a 10″ envelope? There is no option for envelopes in the default document sizes but I know it is possible. Help??

Instead of picking from the list of preset sizes in the New Document dialog, key in your own values – when you select say A4 you’ll see 210 and 297 but you can enter these values yourself too.

10″ envelope – do you mean C4 to fit a piece of A4 paper without folding? If so size is 324 x 229 mm, set orientation (portrait or landscape) depending on your requirements.

If a different size, measure the envelope you have to match and enter corresponding values.

You would have to save your creation as either a .GIF file or a .PNG file on your desktop (or anywhere else you would like.) I would suggest a .PNG file because you will have much better image quality as a .PNG file than a .GIF file. After that, just locate the file you saved right click on it once and you will find an option to set this as desktop background.

I’m currently editing a video on Premiere Pro CS4 but I’ve somehow accidentally changed the settings for a particular feature. When you have clips on the timeline and youre putting them next to each other, when one reaches the other usually a little line appears between the clips to show you that theyre right next to each other, and perfectly alligned (one not overlapping the other etc.) for some reason this is now gone, and its quite annoying. Does anybody know how to fix this? Thanks in advance

From now on, just use the Ripple Delete. It closes those spaces for you. No need to drag. Just right-click in the space. To reset your settings, you can delete the Preferences folder. If I recall, it’s in My Documents>Adobe>Premiere Pro>Prefs
